Industrial Air Compressor Types
Industrial Air Compressor Types
April 14, 2017

An industrial air compressor is a piece of equipment that converts power into potential energy in the form of compressed air. By adding more compressed air in a defined space, more pressure is created thus providing more power available for use.

There are several industrial air compressor types, some of which are as follows:

  1. Positive Displacement Type. This type of compressor forces air into a chamber where the available volume is decreased in order to compress the air being pumped.  This type of industrial air compressor is further broken down into sub-types, which are as follows:

i. Piston Type. It is a system which utilizes a pump action method to force air into an air chamber. The pump action is achieved through the use of pistons forcing air through one way valves to be stored in the air chamber.

ii. Rotary Screw Type. This system utilizes helical screws that turn to guide air into the air chamber that decreases in volume as the screws turn.

iii. Vane Compressor Type. This system utilizes a specifically designed blade placement unit to force air into a chamber after which the volume decreases to compress the air.

  1. Dynamic Displacement Type. This industrial air compressor type uses centrifugal compressors or axial compressors in its operation. The rotation produces kinetic energy in the air to be converted into potential energy in the form of pressure. This is often done through the acceleration and deceleration of the compressor speed to pressurize the air.

As can be seen, there are two major industrial air compressor types. Each type of design has its benefits as well as weaknesses. Finding the right one depends on the need and function to be performed by the industrial air compressor in the manufacturing setting. Feel free to ask us what would be the best type of compressor for your project. We are always here to help.

I\'m a relatively new buyer. My recent job dictates the use of air compressors but I am not an expert in the subject. Do you have a buyer\'s guide?

I think you can\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t go wrong with a positive displacement type of air compressor!
