Two Types of Industrial Air Compressors for Rent
June 29, 2016

When it comes to choosing your equipment for your industrial air compressor rental, we have quite a few to choose from here at Air Energy. Choosing the right kind of air compressor for your job is the first step, and we have experts ready to help you with your rental equipment, should you know what you need. However, if you’re curious about some of the different kinds of air compressors for rent, we’re here to explain the basics for two different kind of industrial air compressor rentals we have available.

Reciprocating Piston Compressor

This kind of compressor utilizes a piston which moves from the inside of a cylinder in order to compress air. Reciprocating here means to move back and forth. Typically it is a piston that will move back and forth but the rubber membrane in the machine can also do this. There are two valve sets that needs to be taken cared of which involves the exhaust and air intake. Our piston compressor rental is oilless, making it a convenient choice for an industrial air compressor rental. In larger machines, a V shape cylinder is utilized, but very small piston compressors just use a single cylinder. A piston compressor ranges in power from 1 HP to at least 30 HP. They are typically used for general purpose applications wherein the air is used for cleaning dust, hand tools, and even for small paint jobs. Together with the rotary screw compressor this is one of the most popular types of compressor. The advantage to this kind of compressor is that it is relatively inexpensive. It is easy to maintain and are mostly used for their higher pressures. However, this compressor type is quite loud. See a comparison on oilless and lubricated compressors by noise level here. You need to place this compressor inside a room or in a box which is isolates sound.

Rotary Screw Compressor

Another popular kind of air compressor is the rotary screw compressor. It typically uses two rotors when compressing air. The rotors also have a special shape and turn in opposite directions with a small margin of clearance in between them. The air sucked in one end will get trapped in between the rotors and will then get pushed to the other side of the rotor. There are also two basic types of rotary screw compressors on the market: oil free and oil injected. Our industrial air compressor rental is a lubricated rotary screw machine.

The rotary screw compressor is advantageous over a piston machine due to its low noise level. You can just place the equipment in your workshop without the need to wear ear protection. Rotary screw compressors are also more energy-efficient compared to the piston type compressors.

great info! definitely agree about the noise levels.
